Travellers arriving at Perth Airport from Bali were made to swab their shoes on disinfecting mats (sticky mats) recently as the threat of foot and mouth disease looms over Australia’s livestock industry.
The Perth passengers arriving from Denpasar were some of the first people to wipe their shoes inside a Biosecurity Response Zone after disembarking.
According to various news outlets, a spokesman for the federal agriculture department said it was the first time foot mats (disinfecting mats) would be deployed in passenger terminals at Australia’s international airports and they were currently undergoing testing.
